10 Things You Can Do If Your *Parents* Don’t LIKE Your Boyfriend!
By- Shreya Sharma
You met a guy, find him wonderful and deep down you feel that he is the one you want to be with for the rest of your life. And not only you, he too has the same feelings for you. But you cannot decide it on your own unless you are one rebellious soul, your parents say will count too. But chances are that they may not see him as the way you do and they do not approve of him. Here are 10 things you should do if your parents do not like your boyfriend.
Talk more about your relationship with him in front of your parents
The moment you want to take your relationship further, it is better you talk more about him at your home. Do not keep him as a surprise, and let your parents know that he exists.
Know the reason why they do not like him
When they say they do not like him, try to know the reason that is bothering him. It is important to know the main reason so that you can work on that.
Understand their mindset
Your parents might be traditional and not comfortable with the idea of love marriage because of society. So, instead of going mad over them, try to understand them. It is difficult to change a person’s attitude and state of mind.
Work on the weak points
If you know his dressing sense, his profession or his habits are the reason your parents do not approve of him, try to speak with your man about it. If he loves you enough, he will understand that these little positive changes can bring you two together. But if your parents have any unreasonable reason, ask them to change their point of view.
Arrange a meeting
Be prepared and set up a meeting with your parents and your partner. If they have met earlier, this time you need to pull your socks up.
Prepare your man well in advance
Think of the things that went wrong last time. Ignore the controversial topics, do not only talk about marriage and keep the conversations light and fun. Ask him to show his best side.
Do not criticize if things do not work out
If the second meeting also does not work, stay strong and support each other. Let your parents know that you will not go against them, but you will make your efforts to show how wonderful your boyfriend is.
You need to be patient
Be calm, patient and hopeful. Give your best efforts to convince them and leave the rest to God. If it is meant to be, it will happen with your parents’ consent.
Do not force your decision
They have brought you to this world and given up so much to make your dreams come true. Listen what your parents have to say, but do not force your decision on them. Handle the situation with love and patience.
Relax and let them sort out
You introduced them, took each’s side, and practically did your best to break the ice. Now let them both take it forward from here. They both love you enough to work it all out. So, just relax and think of all the good that is going to happen!
