6 Recipes to Try in Hostel

The hostel life is the most beautiful time of one’s life. You form an undying relationship with your friends and these are the friends who would remain loyal to you throughout the life. Those countless nights when you and your room-mates get up to experiment in kitchen to satiate your stomach forms the most memorable time of your life.

Recipes:

  1. Sandwich with hung curd:

Ingredients:

  • Bread
  • Hung Curd (leave the curd in a fine sieve for five to ten minutes.)
  • Chopped Onion
  • Black pepper
  • Chopped Tomato
  • Grated Carrot

Method:

First of all mix the chopped veggies and pepper in a bowl with hung curd. Spread the mixture on slices of bread (you can toast the bread with butter if you can manage to sneak in a toaster when you move into the hostel). It can be enjoyed as it is or grilled!

  1. Devilled Eggs:

Ingredients:

  • Boiled Eggs
  • Mayonnaise
  • Chopped Onion
  • Chopped Chilies

Method:

Cut the boiled eggs in half and leave the yolk in a bowl. Smash the yolk with a spoon and mix mayonnaise with chopped onions and chilies. Put the mixture back inside the white portion and enjoy the eggs with ketchup or some chutney. You can use simple pickle relish, instead of the vegetables, with mayonnaise. Sprinkle some chili powder or black pepper for taste.

  1. KurkureChaat:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Kurkure Pack
  • Chopped Onions
  • Chopped Tomatoes
  • Grated Carrots
  • Sweet Chutney
  • Chopped Green Chillies
  • Curd (optional)
  • Sev (optional)
  • Chaat Masala

Method:

Mix the chopped veggies in a bowl. Add salt, chaat masala and the sweet chutney. Add curd if you wish to have a creamy texture. Mix it well and finally add in the Kurkure from the packet. At the end add chopped green chilies. Serve with curd and sev (optional). Enjot the chit chat with “KurkureChaat”.

  1. Sundaes:

Ingredients:

  • Ice Cream/Frozen Yoghurt
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Tinned/Chopped Fruits
  • Chocolate Brownie (Optional)

Method:

First mix the ice cream or yoghurt with chopped/tinned fruits. Add the chocolate syrup and for a better texture, add some crushed almonds or cashews. You can even take a brownie and break its chunks over the sundae!chocolate sundae ice cream

  1. Pasta Salad:

Ingredients:

  • Boiled Pasta (boil some macaroni in your kettle)
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Roast Peanuts (Optional)
  • Olives (Optional)
  • Hung Curd or Fresh Yoghurt
  • One Clove of Garlic (crushed)
  • Chopped Vegetables (Onions, Tomatoes and Capsicum)

Method:

In a bowl, mix hung curd with salt, pepper, crushed garlic and, if you manage to find it, roast peanuts. Add the chopped vegetables and mix well. Add the boiled pasta and mix. You can add the oregano and chili flakes. If you are able to find pickled jalapeños or olives, add them to your salad for that extra tang!

  1. Salad Wrap With Leftover Chapatti:

Ingredients:

  • Some leftover chapattis (you could steal some from the mess)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Tomatoes, Onions, Sprouts and Lettuce Leaves
  • Lemons
  • Green Chutney

Method:

Slice tomatoes and onions and mix them with shredded lettuce leaves. In a bowl, mix ½ tbsp. oil with the juice of half a lemon and add a pinch of salt. Mix the contents of the bowl well. Add the sliced vegetables, and shredded lettuce leaves to the bowl and mix well. For the wrap, spread some green chutney over the chapatti and spread a generous portion of salad over it. Add some chopped green chilies and roll the chapatti tight. You can use humus instead of the chutney if you like the mild creamy texture.
